Title: Bigger boat comparisons

My mate just sold his little 525 Cobra cat.
He is now looking at used bigger boats -

He asked about the Carrycat 670 and the Cobracat 630.

Any bad reviews on these two boats?

I can't speak for the Carrycat but I spent a week fishing on a Cobra 630 in Mozambique last year - awesome boat and very well built!!
Just make sure the tow vehicle is legal as they come on a double axle trailer and weigh a fair bit.

Tell your mate bite the bullet and buy the new Buttcat 660, check the review out in Skiboat mag, that is an awesome rig.

Hey Big D,

Craig is looking for unbiased views on the boats.
Everyone says the 630 broaches but someone said they only do if incorrectly trimmed??
I saw a bad thing about the build on a Carrycat?? guy said transom holes was the cause of rot and splitting away of the fibreglass??

Looking for a boat around R400k

Cobra 630 is a machine. All that old school BS about Cobra's broaching doesn't apply any more. The new Cobra's are exceptionally well built and have adjustments to the original square tunnel and transom that caused trouble with the older models. The guys down here work theirs hard, most guys are running Suzuki 150's or Yammie 130's and they are getting a well balanced rig that is surprisingly light on fuel. Loads of fishing space too.

I will have to find out on what year/model they changed the square tunnel.
My friend is keen on one with Optimaxes on but I'm sure it will be the older square type.
Does the old one ride badly?

Not too sure about the tunnels but they have done some tweaking and all coosa/nida is used in the build so a bit lighter but still a very well made boat....

Personally, I have read a lot of stories about Cobra's and broaching and I have fished a lot off a 525 and it is a lovely small boat and it doesnt broach if it is used correctly!! The 630 is also a lovelly boat, just a bit heavy in the older models! I would avoid a Carrycat after what i have read, there is a reason it is cheap in my personal opinion. Look around also for nice F200 or 21ft Yeld cat, both being good boats!

The 630 came after the 525 and the 625.
