I picked up 2 x Penn Sqall 50 LD's at a very good price, but for offshore what rod should I be looking at? I have some Shimano TLD10's but I wand something a little longer? Any recommendations?

I've really grown to love the Shimano Talavera TEC-70MH rods they are great all round sticks for the 10kg-15kg range and handle general gamefishing really well I've caught couta, dorado, yellowfin (up to 18kg) and a sailfish on mine without trouble, good value too at around R800 per rod :rck"

This seems to be a good cost-effective option.... Jarvis Walker 12-15 kg rod (601215 blank)
If still available.... :dunno: haven't been to a tackle shop looking for lighter rods in a while...

Forgot about those! Brilliant rods! I think Greg (Shagnrelease) can source them for you

TREVALA :geet

something that many of us shimano dudes turn a blind eye to, is the okuma rods, the metaloid is a great rod from those who tell me, jigging rods are surprisingly good rods but me :dunno: , duh ?

TREVALA :geet
You mean the Trevala Casting/Jigging rods?!
Dodger wants to pair it to a Penn Squall 50 LD reel... for boat trolling/drifting I imagine...

Thanks Guys
We have some trevelas, but we use them with grinders, can always fit the squalls though, but we also have some Penn Seabouys which are the 601215 blank. so problem solved :fshn: :corrct:

yup, equally good for trawling and drifting. used them in many scenarios including popping (medium to light poppers), might be the factor why i havent looked for another rod, (except for the terez :hnthnt: ). paired them with 20's, 30's, and 40's on most outtings.
besides the awesome breaking power of the 50ld, its the line capacity that appeals to me

i aslo read Dodger's request for a longer rod, anything from 5'8" to 7' is perfect for a boat
-
Interesting....

thanks
I have also found my old Poseidon Couta Stick which is also a great combo with the 50 LD.
I have so much kit I need to go through it all, I found stuff today that I forgot I had :shk

Just to clarify I was talking about the TALAVERA (TEC 70MH), I think the Trevala's would not be suited to multiplier reels in the class that dodger wants to use, but the Talavaera's would be ideal.
@Dodger those Seaboy blanks are the bomb, get them rebound with new guides and you are sorted!

for all my general fishing i use the tvc 70ml, then to be sure i use tvc 66mh. going to add the tvc 66h one day soon. the 58xxh i'll never use, beast of a rod.
Bwana which reels would you use talavera mh?
