Title: Making sense of super slim rods/ ratings .
Post by: Lenny on June 11, 2017, 07:00:52 PM
Guys , I need to understand the ratings on the super slim rods .

I see ratings such as 40/80/ 450 ,  am I assuming corectly that the length are the 430 ...

I am after a nice and soft 13 ft max casting weight 6 ounce .

The ones that I have seen are super pricey , but the ones I have seen and fished a bit with I was very chuffed , but it seems the owner of the two rods , did not understand the ratings or were not able to explain to me .

Any info regarding them , would be much appreciated .

Here we go Lenny  :1st digits indicate tip rating  --- 2nd digits indicate % of carbon in the blank  and last digits are the length  eg : 40-100-430 = 4oz tip / 100% carbon / 4m30cm length  , have a look at the bluemarlin website all the specs are there .... and they are awesome blanks ... w;k

yA Mike is right. I think the first rating is the midrange of the oz rating of the rod. I have a 50-100-430, which throws a 6oz best, so I would rate it 4-6oz with the 50 rating being the midrange. 100% Carbon signifies full HMG, 50 signifies 50% Carbon, 50% composite/glass.

Ok so it's not rocket science , thanks Mike for the pm , I will follow it up .

Did have a look at the website , one blank stands out , with regards to my requirements ...

So with regarding to the amount of carbon 50 80 and 100 , what's the pros and cons ?

I would imagine the 100 are a verybritle structure ...

Lenny, I have a masterpiece - a Brandon McQueen Custombuilt SS 50-100-420 3 piece, with adjustable Bionic finger and genuine Fuji Low rider concept guides, if you're interested, might be persuaded to sell mine.  :hnthnt:

I agree with REEFZ, a Brandon McQueen Custom built with Low riders is a winner.

Lenny , with the bionic finger setup the reel seat is low on the rod like a multiplier , so its pretty much the same , u can use the rod as a spinning set up with a grinder or with a multiplier .

Ya Mike is right, I can throw a Grinder or Multiplier with mine.
Also, my Bionic finger is detachable. Is held on with rubber o-rings.
Think I paid R4800 for mine, including the new Low rider guides.
Will sell for R4000.

Reefz' rod is a 50-100-420.
Will handle a multiplier easy peasy.
I know 'cause I built it and I tested with both.
Bargain actually....
