:shk sOme awesome pics!

There are some interesting comments below the article? What is your take on this?

Generally (From what I have seen) the smaller fish are handled carefully and released well, but I do agree it puts pressure on smaller species with smaller ranges. I dont think it will be too much of an issue in the near future.
The problem that I have had when fishing for micros is that you do not always hook them in the mouth, they tend to swallow the smaller hooks (Size 20's especially) so if a lot of these fish that are fairly uncommon get "gut hooked" then there definitely will be a problem. I suppose it is a problem that we also have with larger fish too, so I am not too worried about the comments made for the time being...

You manage to gut hook those tiny fish :shk

Ya, tried my hand at Micro fishing at Kosi a few years ago. Targetted some Glassy sweepers near the estuary bank. They ferociously attack the bait and swallowed the hook instantly. After the 1st 2, I laughed it off, cause it was just doing damage. Dipsticking a shoal of Glassies and ending up killing them was not my idea of fun.

Some really pretty little fish there... And ja... I reckon the odd negative comment is just the usual overreaction from those inclined to overreact.
-
personally i have never micro fished, imagening others would laugh, tease or even get chased out of the nursery, maybe its embarrasing and thinking about it, i was one of those laughing and teasing others with their tiny fish. it looks very technical and the rewards could be amazing.
does such a thing exist "tiny pb's"
-
Micro PB's are a real thing bru :-)
-
I also found that they easily get foul hooked because the competition for food is fierce when they are in a school. I usually change my hook to a bigger one to avoid the swallowing the hook. It is amazing how you can still catch them on a bigger hook.
I think the issue with sensitive species is more directed to rivers and isolated water systems. :dunno:
I can't wait for my son to be back from Cape Town so that we can go and catch some micros again.

I never did it (intentionally at least!). To be honest I read about the concept right here on UA, with Walkers...
WRT those that make fun of other people's fishing interests and this is certainly not aimed at bassbug. some comments in that post were also not so positive. I remember when Walks first started posting his micro fishing adventures he was somehow affraid we would laugh at it... this quote came to mind "Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after" - Henry David Thoreau.
To the comments generated by the internet emotional warriors... the modern western life style poses a way greater threat to conservation of wildlife in the planet through climate change, wasteful consumism, pollution, etc... Go experience the outdoors and stop chasing pokemons!

I also don't see this type of fishing as being a big threat, it's when fish are wanted for their meat that there is a big problem.
-
beleive it or not, i dont go out to find or pick on micro fisherman. the last thing i would like to do is spoil my days outting or some stranger for that matter.
my gags and teases happen amongst my mates and acquaintances. if i offened WalkersKiller, John F and others here, accept my sorries.
moving on, the closest i get to micro fishing or as the title states - this is why i micro fish - is with my fly fishing, locally or abroad, in small mountain streams. i fish with micro flies sizes ranging from from 22 to 28 and tippets of 0.08mm or 0.05mm in diameter 4 finicky fish, match the hatch thing and also an very important factor - the density of the fly in presentation. these small waters seldom produces big fish but mainly palm size and longer with the odd incher that gets in way. i fish these tiny streams purely because of its challenges it presents me with ultra light tackle. yet my game plan is and will always be to land that big boy in those difficult circumstances. having a micro fish yanked out of the water when striking is not nice, it flies in the air like as if i'm tempting another false cast for another presentation or having a micro fish skating on the waters surface for release. this is not a bad thing on the one hand because it removes a fish from a lay that could spook others in the pond and on the other hand the poor thing lands on the ground behind me or worse, it gets falsed cast a few times or spooks everything in that pond including my feelings.
over forties years of fishing, never have i found micro fish to be champion stuff but beautiful in looks and interesting to look at.

Haha you can never offend me...
I get your point though, and I love doing the same...
I am just a strange angler :rotfl

Micro PB's are a real thing bru :-)
is it measured, weighed or even counted?
-
All good bassbug!!!!!
I'd assume the PB thing works as some kind of reverse scale ?!? The smaller the better?
-
Generally measured or guesstimated, the smaller the better. Measured in mm, for example my micro pb blacktail is 40 mm or slightly less.
