I'm trying to remove the corrosion on the reel seat of this rather ancient split cane rod.
Someone suggested WD40 and fine steel wool but I think this would damage the chrome coating - such as it is now :)
Does anyone have experience with this / any method they have tried successfully?

I think the chrome on that reelseat may have left the party a while back... Give brasso a try or Vinegar

I would try with Brasso and fine steel wool.
No doubt it will remove the chrome!
