Title: Morocco Marlin Charters Updates
Post by: Morocco Marlin Charters on May 22, 2016, 03:22:14 PM

Just as an intro I have posted the preamble for what we are doing in Morocco for those who do not know. Same captain from Reel Magic Charters Richards Bay just a new boat and new location and hoping to carry on with some great catches. Haven't been this exited to go fishing in a while! new area and new fishery-Awesome!!

Morocco Marlin Charters
Morocco Marlin Charters are based in the quiet fishing town of Mohammedia, just a half an hour’s drive from the buzzing center of Cassablanca on the west coast of Morocco. This gives easy access to the continental shelf that runs parallel to the Moroccan coastline and attracts many game fish to the area.
We fish off the vessel “ 7 Days “, a 43 ft Egg Harbour Sports fisher that is fully maintained and in mint condition. The boat features a large range of amenities both for serious fishing and for luxurious cruising, with a full galley and enclosed bathroom as well as plenty room to relax in air conditioned comfort. The boat has a fly bridge and tuna tower for fish spotting and has all the professional fishing tackle including fighting chair and all other facilities required.
Your fishing trip will give you the opportunity to target the big game fishing species in these waters, including Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Bluefin Tuna, Mahi Mahi, and some of the other smaller tuna species depending on the season and conditions. You won’t have to worry about bringing your own tackle with you as all these amenities are supplied and inclusive in the price of the trip.
Your Captain, Trevor Hansen, is a vastly experienced tournament captain who has represented his country in big game fishing tournaments and has fished in most the marlin hot spots of the world.
Join him and his crew for an unforgettable fishing experience in Morocco from June to October.
Okay so that out of the way here is our first update:

At last the news we have been waiting for! Boat off Rabat in 600m saw a blue! Small fishing boats have been catching plenty Bonito the last few days so the signs were there with the bait moving into the area. Time to saddle up and go looking...

So its been a long month of maintenance and boat sorting on the hard. Good news we back in the water and ready to go 100%.
In the Med after lift and clean and will start fishing for Bluefin tomorrow out of Marina Smir. Short run to the strait of Gibraltar and lines in. Two fish of 120 Kg confirmed yesterday on a friends boat so good to see the bigger fish arriving. Saw a shoal of 40 to 60kg fish busting on the way into med but didnt get a hookup. Now we have no fuel or time restrictions we can go at them hard.
Reports to follow...

Incredibly frustrating day yesterday starting with thick mist in the morning making it impossible to get to the area for the early rise. Fishing the strait is a challenge on a clear day .With all the traffic it is suicidal in the mist with fast ferries and ships everywhere.
Eventually arrived at 8 am to see one boat load a fish of around 150kg.
Went tight at 11 am only to pull the hooks on the run. Saw some big fish on the echo through the day and with the Spanish Armada arriving once the mist lifted it became even more difficult to hook up. Season just started so there are a lot of boats out there now.
Saw some fish busting at 3pm and got into a shoal of 30 to 40 massive Bluefin in the 250 kg range What a sight!!!
Unfortunately no hookup so we paying our dues and waiting patiently. Saw only 3 other boats hook up through the day so a slow day but the big fat ones are out there now!!

Such a good day today after all the toil. Back to Mohammedia for short while then back here to go at them again. Nice to show what is possible here....this is only the beginning of so much more! Fished one and half days and had two on going 1 for 2 not bad .We hooked up just before 10am today and fought till 1230 but unfortunately couldnt load the fish being 3 up and no pulley system.Wouldnt fit thru the door sideways so had to call it quits and tow it for 10 miles to find a little boat inshore with a few spare hands. Became obvious then why we had struggled. Missed out on having a go at another but all good. Pulley will be on board next time although release will be priority if possibleGoing to sleep well...

Was this monster caught trolling or using the techniques we see on "Wicked Tuna"?

Trolling big Bonito plugs, hence very difficult to release especially short handed. Fish are a handfull next to the boat and damn dangerous trying to get hooks out. Hopefully wont load another for a while.

Awesome two days in Straight. Went double on Big Bluefin on first day but unfortunately pulled hooks on one on run and other after 45 min
Yesterday was a slow start but when tide started pushing the fish went berserk on surface with massive fish busting all over. Went tight at 1pm and landed another shortly after first. Lucky for first time anglers they were shoal 145 and 170 kg fish. Only enough time for two.
Boys sore this morning.

Strict regulation and control. Morocco commercial season now open. Spain closed. Have had patrol boats come to us each time we have been out but no hassles and wave us on. Very few boats fish from Morocco but plenty from other side.

Wow what a day absolutely buggered. No sleep last night due to heavy flu and crazy all night party on quay. Left early in heavy mist and had to take it easy by radar for 2 hours at 10 knots. Burst through mist on temperature change in the Strait to see 3 bus fish in the 700 class airborne. Was hoping for a small to cut up for home but chased fish all morning without luck. Mid day and the pushing tide did it again and hanging on my favorite area we went into a shoal of massive fish feeding sub surface.
Big belly shines all over. Didn't even manage a turn and we went double up. Pity the 130 pulled hooks and the 80 stuck. 4 hours later and two attempts on the leader and owner Mo was done. Took a short turn at max drag and had her up next to boat twice. small Nav error saw us touch off on side of boat. Fish dwarfed the 270 kg we had other day calling it 350 or over 700 lbs. Sorry to lose it as wanted some pics. Don't know if go pro got it but probably just as well was a class fish and have no use for it on land.
Classified caught and released....
BUS FISH! Place is rocking big Bluefin!!!

And the White Marlin have arrived!!! First day out just two up so difficult to pitch but raised 10 fish , few window shoppers, hooked 4 that jumped off and landed 2.
Did a small autopsy on one for research for gonad maturity for research in the states and took a fin sample from the other which was released.
Awesome stuff and the beginning of our marlin season opened with a bang!

Morocco Marlin Charters

Have had good action the last few days having raised 37 white marlin. Guys now up to speed big time. Raised 7 on a slow day for the other boats. 2 didn't bite and of 5 that we pitched we landed 4.
80% hook up and release. That's more like it!
Big up to Robin and Laurent Sahyoun for the Eagle Claw circle hooks - what a difference!!!!
Relief all round and now looking forward to pushing the numbers as the fish liven up. So stoked

White marlin on the charge! Got into the area very late yesterday and still raised 14. Many window shoppers and fish free swimming around the boat while fighting. Dropped 3 and landed one. Boys on One More did a good job being there early and releasing 8. They saw plenty too so its turning on nicely. Missed today so out tomorrow and hopefully they still in the same place. Been moving around a lot with the ever changing water....

Check go pro screenshot of the marlin behind the boat while fighting another!

White BITE!!! Raised 22 today pitched 7 and caught 4. Fish balling bait and very fussy but awesome sight seeing the fish on the surface and in the spread! Moroccan crew still struggling with the pitching story but progress every day.
Awesome having my A Team member from Richards Bay on the boat again. Big White Moroccan welcome to Dale today, was yelling like a banshee the first few fish ha ha took a while to calm down. Great day pics later.

Fish can be shared equally with my deckie Ousman. 11 each
Best day 17 releases!!!!
The best white marlin destination in the world with flat seas and great boat.

Bluefin still wall to wall but smaller class. GLADIUS was up there for two days said the fish were full up in 80 to 140 kg class.

Rico Sakko;

A big thanks to Trevor  Hansen for the best fishing trip i have ever experienced. Riaan Heyns and i  have just arrived back from fishing out of Casablanca , Marocco for five days.  We did not chase numbers , but fun fishing. Our best day we released 17 white marlin.  In total we caught 33 of which two on fly by Riaan. The fish we raised were  consistent everyday. We never had more than 6 knots of wind or a swell bigger  than 4 foot. The water temperature was between 22 and 23 degrees for the duration of our stay. This means that you are  never hot while fishing. If the water was any clearer it would have been  invisible. Whenever we teased the fish up there would be two to four fish  swimming around the boat all lit up. Trevor put us on the fish by 8.30 am  everyday and stayed out for as long as we were willing to pull fish. A more  enthusiastic and passionate captain would be hard to find. Thanx to Iain and  Cam Nicolson for the bait. Riaan it was a pleasure sharing a deck with you , something  we should do more often. I recommend this fishery to anyone keen on white  marlin. The season runs from August to end October.
