I don't know to much about bill fishing ect , but I read these thread the off shore guys have .
I have a bit of a contribution .
Most of us , use hand lines when fishing for bottoms .
All of the commercials catch this way too .
This is a basic need to know guide .
Ps , the debate about why a hand line , well is much much quicker and an art in a way . These methods are donkey years old .
You will need .
Few handline hanks ( coils)
23 kg 33 kg redfish ( winter generally)
45 / 58 64 kg geelbek / kob silvers .
80 /90 100 120 and 140 kg for yellowtail / sharks ect .
Hooks 6/0 8/0 Kendall's redfish silvers . And the 9/0 snoek hoek.
Kob 10/0 Kendal 10/ snoek hook .
Tail 10 / 11 and the 12 snoek hooks .
Bek 12 snoek or the biggest you can find .
Sharp knife / stone .
Vingerlapppies / gloves ( you buy them at any tackle shop )
Some skirts in 10 or 12 cm .
Biggest 3 way swivel you can get .
Shopping basket .

You're need a few of these leads , the ones with the string and swivel , 4/6 8 /10/12/16 ounce.
Then you'll need some serious weight for the deep areas up to 60 fathoms . And for when there current .
But mainly , current .
-
You'll need a few beads the big ones as in the above picture .
Then you'll need a few haspers/ plankies or yoyos . They available at tackle shops .
Note/ lines from 23 kg to 85/90 kg fits on these yoyos , line over those breaking strains you'll ever need a plankie.
The slim guys , buy 3 coils at once and split the 300 m coil into 2 150 m lines . ( for the deep areas )
