I used to live in Barkly east were i was a fly fishermen (fresh water) i have recently moved to Alexandria (close to Port Alfred).
I would like to get into spin fishing , paddle tails and lures, i don't know people in the area so don't have someone to help me with the ropes.

Good kit for spinning with lures would be an Assassin Amia paired with a Shimano Stradic. The Amia comes in different lengths and weight ratings.

Dwain like Reefz said Amia with a 4000 size spinning reel is awesome , specially for long range spinning and if using braid 20- 30 lb  , for the dropshot stuff and closer range like in estuaries etc , a 7 to  8 ft rod paired with a 2000-3000 size reel works well specially with the light weight plastics and jigheads .

The Exceler 4000 is ok, will do the job. The Stradic 5000FJ is significantly better though, if you can still get one. They have brought out a new model Stradic recently.
I have both these reels, so speak from experience.
Just a headsup... the Daiwa 4000 reels are slightly bigger than the Shimano 5000 reels...

thanx for all the advice ill keep everything in mind when shopping for the rig and any advice on good lures Ive been told that 6" paddle tails like your baby elf, pearl white, orca and goldfish is a good way to go then i should get glass rattles to put in side the paddle tails and that combo is good if you going for cobs still need other lures to target other fish. i have also got some dvds on drop shots that im busy watching.
