Hi Guys...
Anyone possibly know why I cannot send a private message to someone?
When i click on the "new message" button, it says i cannot send messages?
Any ideas?
Regards,
Gavin

Hi Gavin,

This is a rule that can be revised in my opinion. Private conversations is especially valuable for new members.

Why would you want to have a private chat as a new member when you have a few thousand of your newest friends at your disposal? :uarocks

The entire reason for joining a forum is sharing and collaboration for ALL members! Cant very well do so via PM's.
If you contribute regularly, you will be made a senior member, and will then be able to send pms.

just open a post in the relevant section the guys will reply. It's one of the nice to haves of this forum, because you will not believe how many times people that have never contributed a single thing will just come onto a forum and pm a person with a long list of questions, never to be heard from again or even a thank you.

Not being funny Admin, but dont you guys think that this forum has lost enough members?
The other forums out there all have that function available from the start.
Its irrelevant whether you are new or not, if the individual has something to say to another that is private then it shouldnt have to be broadcasted for all to see. An example is if a member wants to crew with a skipper and needs to make arrangements, home address and personal contact details to be posted.
I'm sorry im a senior member and i think this is a silly change.
The other online sites are all growing and the majority of the members are ex members from this forum.

This rule has been in place for at least 2 years already!
If someone needs to make arrangements with someone else, then you can use the EMAIL function - see pic below.
Other forums.. nyeh... we don't lose much sleep over them. Admin is perfectly happy with the way things are here. It's not a competition, but a place we can enjoy our hobby. Part of that enjoyment is not having to answer 20 PM's a day from trolls asking for personal, private and exclusive advice; specifically from people who are not prepared to share anything, but very willing to take, take, take!?

So it's not going to change unfortunately... silly or not.

I hope you not using pm to crew with some one you don't know going to be a hit and miss affair.

UA will never be what other forums are.....they want to be like us.
Michael just like the rules are put in place not only to help members but also to get members involved, post more get involved more and most will see that this is done for a good reason. Play the ball not the player.
GUYS THESE ARE THE RULES IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE RULES YOU ARE FREE TO GO.
But this may sound harsh but I love fishing and this place is in some way a part of me so please respect my space and all the other members that just want to be here "for the love to fishing".

Really, are we discussing this. Seriously?
Why don't we all get Uber Super Status when we join with admin rights. Why are we not allowed to do and say (swear) what we want, discuss politics, religion and post porn?
Respect, that's why. Rules are rules even if they seem silly to one or more, they are rules and should be respected. One could challenge the powers to amend/review or scrap a rule, but that should be done in a constructive, following the right procedure and respectful manner. If then overruled, well then one still has the choice to either accept, respect and live by the rule, or leave, which will be a pity.
Wasn't going to post anything concerning but since I suspect that it has to do with CEO's post advertising the hook remover for sale and I for one have had to deal with the rule (respectfully so) I thought I'd just throw my 2 inch senko into the weeds as well!I had send him a PM asking him if the hook remover was still available and if so if he could provide me with banking details. I have not received any info from him, now I know why. Nonetheless, (Not taking a swipe at CEO, please Buddy understand that I'm just trying to explain the rule) but he could have responded/replied in the add that he cannot reply to PM's and perhaps have supplied a cell number like we've (I've) done many a time.
CEO, herewith my cell number, please give me a call or send me an SMS if the hook remover is still available as I would seriously like to buy it? Zero 8 two 5 seven 0 two 6 three 2.
That said, the rule is what it is, respect it even if it seems silly, it's there to ensure order and for UA to remain the respectable, irreplaceable, informative and valuable place it is!

Mike, i think we should just go fishing and avoid all politics, what you say? We do have the sea on our side :hnthnt:

Now that's the best piece of advice I've heard in a long time (clap) , (bat u lucky Buggers that can just walk across the road with a beach trolley and catch fish :envy , I still contest if that big blue pond holds any fish though as every time I stand with that sand between my toes, rod in hand, all the confidence and good attitude, I end up going home with very much less terminal tackle than I took there and a good lesson in casting, except for those pesky "Toby's"

LOL i know the feeling :cnfzd

Isn't there something that one can spike the bait with that will make the target species bite and the Tobie's to immigrate to Aus? :hnthnt:

We who live at the sea don't use trolleys containing every single piece of tackle that we own......only the in landers do. We take a small bag and a rod or two when fishing off the beach....so that we can be mobile. And we know what we are fishing for at rhat exact time and place. :creep:
-
Ja ja, rub our (my) faces in it whilst you're @ it why don't you :rotfl :rotfl
But then again, we need all the stuff as we have to work for our fish :craz: :hehe: :hyst: , no man seriously, I've given up on your big blue pond producing anything other than a squealing Toby. I keep trying but...... :cnfzd the reults are almost always the same.
PS, I only have a small tackle box and two rods for the salt. A Shimano 11' something for drop shot and an 13" Exage for eds, yes Shad, that what all Vaalies go and try to catch! :hyst: And maybe that's the problem, I NEED MORE TACKLE :toppie: :happ:
-
Now now children, lets rather go fishing.

Lol, chris i'm still fishing just as much as ever. I just dont post the photos because you get nailed by the bunny huggers and i am with a harbour club now. So i'm launching out through the harbour mouth. Been fishing more at Deep no 1 and south off the cutting and the ledges though.
As for Isivubu, mate i was giving a hypothetical situation regarding the crewing of a vessel. Hell it could be a multitude of reasons to keep a conversation private, like asking Chris permission to date his daughter :frid

Really sorry to hear. I really enjoy reading fishing reports with pics... while I might qualify as a "bunny hugger" for some people, I do my fair share of fish slaying... I post it 'cause I enjoy sharing my fishing stories... don't really care about what others may say/think... as I stick to the law.
Would strongly encourage you to post your pics. That's what this platform is for.

Remember when the old "Scope" magazines had a "Juice" section?
It came in a separate sealed plastic inside the magazine - if you didn't want to see the gory bits, you were told not to open it.
How about a Section on the forum called "One for the pot." This could be a place for people to post pics of legally kept fish without the risk of getting bashed.
For those who prefer not to see or hear about kept fish, it's simple, don't open the thread.
I love this forum, I love all the reports and I respect peoples rights to keep or release a fish within the limits of the law.
If it keeps the forum active and stops the fighting, maybe it could work.
Just a thought ....

Won't work as inquisitiveness kicks in and jealousy and they will open it, there will always be some plonker who ruins a good thing. Mike you can always whattsapp me your pics and make me jealous. w;k  been 2 months now since i been fishing so weather man must come right.

Tend to agree, I don't post pics on any social media (except to mates) as you get taken to the cleaners even if its legal.

like asking Chris permission to date his daughter :frid
Good luck with that....Heard that Chris's daughter has only one fishermen in her life and that's CLS. :crzy :hehe: so no pm will work there.
