Planning a trip to Inhassorro next year april. :fshn: Just want to find out if anyone has travelled from Pafuri in the kruger park to Inhassorro or would it be a waste of time. If not would one be able to do it with the boat and would the boat be damaged.

Hi. I've done the trip quite often (but without any sort of trailer) and conditions have been varied from bad to seriously bad.
Personally. I wouldn't take this route with a boat. But if you had a very light little rib with a small motor and trailer with minimum of 14" wheels with lots of ground clearance, you could do it but I reckon half way down the Pafuri/Mapai stretch, you'd wish you hadn't attempted it.
The road is also very seasonal, so anything after the rains and the river crossing can become a no go.

Forgot to add... it's a stunningly lekker trip to do... We love the "bospad"... Just not with a boat behind you.

Fishstyx has explained this route to me word for word and it sounds and seems a fantastic route to do with a 4x4 but with a boat definitely a no go

Thanks for the info, at least my dad would enjoy it regardless. I have just wondered if it would work with boat as then one could cut out 500km of travel.
Thanks again for the reply's :tkx:

I've gone down to Vil quite a few times and for me, it's a 700km journey, through the park, crossing at Pafuri gate and then to Vil. It takes a day and a half. Firstly, you are supposed to stop over because of the park rules, but this can be dodged. We have taken to sleeping at Mapai in the Parc Nacional because it breaks the journey nicely. The tough bit is from Pafuri down to Mapai. It's very slow going depending on when the last rain fell. From Mapai to EN1 it's dirt road that varies between good (comfortable 80km/h) to a bit dodgy (40km/h). Then tar when you hit EN1 up to Vil. I will always take this road provided it's been reasonably dry in the run up to my trip. Which ever way I go, it's more than a day's trip. Through Pafuri, it's a short trip in km and very cost effective in diesel.
I have taken my various boats through Giriyondo post. That's a lot of dirt road but reasonably reliable and moderately well kept.

Rangerraschke, don't even think about dragging the boat on the Pafuri/Mapai road. A superb drive for sure, but certainly not pulling a boat, it will get badly damaged. In addition, you have to cross the river at Mapai. If the water is low enough, under your own steam or on a home made pontoon if the river is not running too full. This would be two trips on the pontoon, a long drawn out process and certainly not cheap.
