Hi Gerhard.
Thanks for sharing, what do you think about the FG Knot .. do you use it a lot ..is the FG Knot Bulletproof ?
-
The only knot I will use when popping, I have never seen this knot fail....ever.
-
Looks like a bulletproof knot, I'm guessing this only works with a braided main line?

So after checking out the FG and trying it a few times (and being mightily impressed with it), a few weeks back, I had to do a new Eskom connection to my factory. The kiosk was in place and we had to move the cable from the old meter to the new kiosk. I had prepared (or at least I thought I'd prepared) for the move by asking a few of my staff to dig up the cable beforehand so that when the time came to move to the new kiosk, we could simply pull the cable out by hand and re-lay it in the new trench already dug (you don't want exposed cable visible in the street these days... especially heavy 70 mm2 stuff. That will fetch 100 maybe 200 bucks at the scrapyard and will cost you R10k to replace).
So time came to do the job (after hours) and the contractor pitched up with no assistants. So Kiepie ended up having to be the handlanger. We started pulling the cable out and then got stuck. Turned out, my blokes got tired while loosening the soil and just dug a few centimeters deep, leaving the cable still quite firmly stuck.
There was pretty bad weather moving in and it was getting dark quickly. Re-connecting was not negotiable. I had to have power the following morning. So I decided to try pulling the cable with my bakkie. Long story short, I used a 50mm tow strap from my tow bar and then did an FG knot with the strap down the cable. The contractor by this stage was looking at me like I had clearly lost it, but I jumped in my bakkie eased forward. I eventually ended up wheel spinning but we had enough cable out to do a temporary connection that we re-did the following weekend.
That FG knot bit down beautifully on the cable, snugged itself up and didn't budge. The contractor asked me to teach him how to do an FG. :-)
I'm a total convert now. Anyone need a PR bobbin? :rck"

:+ cred: to Davo and Gerhard! Tried and tied the knot using both ways shown in the clips and it really is a easy knot to tie! I prefer the first one that Davo posted as it works easier for me but there is still a lot of practise needed to get the knot 100%, still battling to get the knot seated correctly without it slipping at the start but practice makes perfect!

Thats easy.
Make the wraps...
Max of 12.
Do to half hitches.
And the pull with gloves on as I have been cut way to many times by the braid.
Once the wraps has seated complete the half hitches on the leader.
Pull again.
Half hitches up the braid and pull last time to lock up and there you go...

Thanks Gerhard will keep on practicing and maybe post a pic for comments tonight

Nope no pics...
Tie the knot and go and pull it and try and brake the knot...
Pics of a knot does not really tell how well its tied...
Practice makes perfect
