On ave Mias prices are 30 % to extra redonkulous more than most Tackle shops , after the 50% off you will still find some products for less at other shops . The 50% off is still a nice outing as long as you know what you want to buy and do your price home work . Normally buy lures by the dozen that I hardly fish with :rotfl :hyst:

Its usually an excuse to spend money on more tackle that will never use but it makes me happy for at least a day :hehe: :hehe: .Nice shot craig as soon as someone knows the exact date post it up here.

Friday to scope the place out and collect my new credit card (and lose the wife) and Saturday to live out my TA!!! then Fly to CT/Struis on Tuesday to test out all the gear before I pack it into my Cave and never use it again, I hope they got some good deals or I will be really upset! :cnfzd

I went to the Ranburg shop and bought some leader line and reel covers. Had a good look at the rods. Poseidon rod with five tips R2399 if memory serves me correct. Nett item and only 10% off. :rck"

Benoni branch was a pleasure , plenty assistants. Consumables were the normal less 10%. budget reels were plentiful. Rods section had some good deals , bought a 8' boat (tiger) rod less 50% .

Looking for a nice pair of stainless / rust free pliers, a new pair of Rockie sandals (they are now R650-00), a Halco twisty, some leader line. Maybe a T-shirt or 2. I have enough other tackle at home. All will be depending on the price. If they have doubled the prices, and are then knocking 50% off, then I will just leave. (will keep telling myself that).

A quick comparison between Gani's online prices and the Mias brochure - 10% off would be a better title. Some cash to be saved if you know what you want, but not worth the bun fight if you ask me.

It's normally early in June (go and check your last years credit card statement ....... just look for the big number!). It' perfectly timed for our Transkei Hole in the Wall trip .... we leave on the 16th of June. So any time before that is great. Just checked my credit card statement, it's dated 27 May. Oh well, that's still before our trip. :happ:

Went through to Woodmead at 08:30 this morning. No huge crowds, in fact it was quite quiet. Was expecting to see more people there. Didn't spend a fortune. Some of my friends bought rods and reels, and at half price, they were a good deal. I bought some line and some braid, 1 Halco Twisty spoon, some swivels and some fastach clips to play with. I thought I got a good deal on the stuff I bought. I was looking for some Owner Hyperwire split rings, but they did not have any. Will pop in to the Randburg branch on the way home and see if they have any.

My strategy paid off by going to the Randburg Mias. I spoilt myself to a 5wt Xplorer T50 and a 9wt Xplorer guide 2 :blush: and lines and reels and a bunch of fly tying stuff. Might have gone a little over budget :blush:

Popped into the Randburg Mias and got the split rings I was looking for. Very nearly got a nice 11 foot spinning rod, but managed to get out of there unscathed.

Went to Mias Woodmead for Waders but did not have my size :blush: then from there to Benoni. Bought Explorer waders. Here is the rub. Waders marked outside with a price of R2550, found a price tag inside of R1990. Recieved a 30% off the R1990 price. Apparently all nett priced items were 30% off.
I still look like an olive Michelin man though w;k :hyst: :hyst:

I was in Mia's Woodmead on the weekend and asked about the sale. One if the main guys advised me that because of the timing of Ramadan this year, the sale was unlikely to be at the normal time. He said if they do have a sale this year it will probably only be in July or August.
Whether the above is true or was just a ploy to get me to buy what I needed while I was there over the weekend, rather than waiting for the sale, I don't know??? Either way I ended up buying while I was there!

Hi Ianf - as per my post from a few weeks ago, Woodmead Mia's told me that they won't have a sale during Ramadan. I was at there again last week and they have signs on the door notifying of reduced trading hours during Ramadan, which tends to support what I was told. Not sure how long Ramadan goes on for, but hopefully there will still be a sale sometime soonish.

If a rod normally retails at any other fishing shop for R700, it would normally have a "marked price" at Mia's of R1,000, but yesterday was being sold for R500.
Regular Mia's shoppers would know that everyone always gets a 15-30% "discount" on the marked prices of everything you buy on any other day of the year (depending on how "regular" a customer you actually are) so what you end up paying is normally fairly aligned to the prices at other shops...

was in such a rush to squeeze in a bargain run in lunch hour, only saw the slip when I got home that only certain items I got 50% off.

Took the opportunity to replenish consumables and terminal odds and sodds... got some custom lures heading my way in the next month or so that will need some shiny bits so that was main focus.
24 bucks a pack of inline singles sure felt special to me!!! w;k
A mate got a 13'6 coastline and an Azores z65 for R1600, so I rekon if you knew what you were after before going in there were some good bargains to be had.

Purchased a reel yesterday marked price R1100, received a quote of R750 for the reel a week ago and I paid R 595 yesterday.

A heads up for those who are in Joburg and up for some shopping that the Mia's 50% sale is next week Wednesday 27 June. To put the sale in perspective - there's a rod that I have my eye on that has a "marked price" at Mia's of R2,500 and the same rod at Basil Manning has a marked price of R1,600 (probably what the price should be). At the Mia's sale I will pay R1,250. Effectively I will be getting around a 20% discount on what I should or would be paying for that rod, so whilst not "half price", it is definitely still a worthwhile exercise!

Hi Bassbug, that's correct -the "nett items" are discounted by 10%, but the majority of items are "50% off". I spend way too much time (and money) at that shop and know their pricing structures well. Also been to a few of their sales over the years so know what to expect. If there is a particular item that you are interested in it is worth checking whether it is currently marked as "net" or full price, and what discount you would hence get.
