Title: Loose roller bearing housing on Trinidad 30
Post by: Mazeppaking on May 02, 2014, 12:05:41 PM
Hello All,
Brand new member. I am servicing my Trinidad 30 (well used) for the second time and the housing for #271 - Ball Bearing & #281 Roller Clutch Bearing is loose. It is connected to the #342 - RHS Plate by press fitted pins and this whole assembly is a bit loose. I noticed this when I last went fishing and it didn't seem to affect the performance of the reel. There also seems no way of tightening this up and I wonder if I need to buy a new RHS plate.

Any help welcome!

Mk... just had a look at my Trini Schematics and those part numbers you list are not on there...?! Maybe I have an older model? You sure this is a Trini 30 and not a Trini 30A?

Anyhow, difficult to say without seeing pics of your reel... but on the Trini 30 Gold, the Anti-reverse clutch looks like this...
If those 2 pressed steel pins have come loose and the plate holding the housing is loose, you have 2 options - fish with it until it comes apart, bearing in mind that the Drive Shaft would keep the bearing reasonably well on place along with the Roller clutch sleeve.
Or replace the side plate.

Below pic shows the removal of the bearing...
Now, is the metal housing that's left behind after removing the bearing (LHS of the pic) loose? If that's the case, then you will probably need a new Side plate, because the only way that housing can come loose is if it has worn the frame of the side plate.

But if that metal housing is still fixed, and it's only the plastic bearing casing that is loose, then simple replacement of the casing should do the trick?

Thanks so much Reefman have read your reel servicing atricles with much interest and as a mechanical person, I always prefer doing things myself, rather than paying someone else to do it. Okay so a bit of background ----- the reel is +/- 12 years old and professionally serviced 7 years ago and lubed up by me 3 x times and has fished perfectly for all these years and is still fishing very well. Off to Mazeppa in August so just making sure all is okay. I have removed the ball bearing and roller bearing which are both okay and the  steel cage that houses the roller bearing is also okay. What I am left with is the plastic case attached to the housing by the two pins and as per photo it "rocks" on the E - W axis as shown. Has been like this for a while and has not affected the reels performance. Do I have a disaster waiting to happen or should I leave it or should I replace the side place. RRRRR????? grrrrr

Not sure how to insert a picture but if you look at your first picture then the plastic housing wobbles N - S or up and down
