Title: Prusik Knot
Post by: hrogers on April 20, 2014, 11:21:18 AM
Have any of our UA members ever used a Prusik Knot on Angling !

I was for twee weeks in Cape Town for vacation and we used 2 seperate days just for Fishing - We went with the boat Rival. The 2nd time we went out for fishing we went only for Hottentot - Cape harbour we launched, and fish at the reeves.

The seals rob us heavy of our fish and one of my knots lines broke off due to the seals and leave and empty knot on my line - The Prusik knot was the fastest for me to do
on the line and I could carry on with my fishing

Note a Prusik knot can slide up and down therefore there must be a short distance where the sliding knot is limited.

Interesting concept. What do you do so that it doesn't burn off?

Those are one of the first knots they teach you at the NSRI / and rescue groups .

Its used obviously for Rope work . the Prusik is tied around the mainline to act as a 'second defence ' if  rope slip  of pulley failing , the knot will tighten more the harder you pull and if you let go and release tension it must loosen up again .

Never used it for fishing though ..

Thats right prusik are used for rope rescue - upsailing and have many advantages
Easy to release after tension is released
