Quite a few guys have expressed considerable interest in another Inhaca Offshore Gathering in October of this year. In order to get the plan together I have listed a few things to consider in choosing the date.
School Holidays: 4th - 12th October
High Tides are at unfavourable times on the earlier days of the holidays with sunrise only being at around 05:20
However in order to squeeze the trip in during school holidays, which was important to some people, we can start looking at things from Wednesday 8th onwards, if we have a launching window 1 1/2 hours after high tide. In addition the Solunar Fish Activity is at its highest for the month at this time.
It looks like this:
Wednesday 8th - Sun Rise, 05:21 - High Tide, 03:40
Thursday 9th - Sun Rise, 05:20 - High Tide, 04:15
Friday 10th - Sun Rise, 05:19 - High Tide, 04:50
Saturday 11th - Sun Rise, 05:18 - High Tide, 05:25
Sunday 12th - Sun Rise, 05:17 - High Tide, 05:55
Monday 13th - Sun Rise, 05:16 - High Tide, 06:30
So from a date point of view the above would be the best time.
Lets get the discussion going and see where we go from here. I'm in 100%
-
Howdy Tony, I am keen. I want to talk to my Boss chick cause I would like her and my little girl to come along. I like the idea of inviting other UA members :corrct:.
-
Indlovo ,
I am in spirit very interested in a event like this , but Mozambique is a week by horse for us here in the Cape, But not undoable.
I have a project boat I need to finish in the Winter and ultimately will then Sleep / Stored in PTA or Komati , and this is maybe just the kick in the behind I need and a 1 way tow is not so bad.
Here in the Cape We also have a Forum- "Boatfishing" and sure it may be possible to organise 2-4 Boats to join in as well.
What is a Comfortable no of boats for such an event ?
-
Hi Tony,
It looks good, I'm awaiting input and will revert with a bit more. I quite like the idea of inviting UA members :resp: (clap)
-
Reckon I'm out for this one as its a little earlier in the new season then I would like to go but will make a call closer to the time

Number of boats is not a problem, however accommodation on the island could become a problem with a whole pile of boats.
-
Guys, I know this is 8 months away and there is absolutely no need to commit at this stage, I got the thread going to give everyone a heads up and to pencil it into your diaries as well as to get the discussion going.
Those R&S anglers who would like to give offshore a try and may be able to make this one, stick your names on a list so we know what kind of numbers we are talking about. more or less at this stage of course.

TBC = To be Confirmed
C'mon you KZN guys, it is only 599 kilometers to Maputo from Durban via Swaziland.
-
Hi Tony,
What do you say would be the approximate cost for 4 anglers on my boat to be part of this, all inclusive. I'd have to go and fetch my boat at St. Lucia so it's a hell of a track as I will have to go fetch the boat, go through Swaziland and drop the boat off again in St. Lucia and then back home. I would really love to do this trip but I need to be able to give costs to prospective crew.
-
OK, below are the costs for each boat. Take note that there is a fair amount of paperwork that needs to be taken care of and if we all ask very nicely, maybe peterblace can sort things for us before we get there.
In addition I would advise everyone to take as much food as you can, although you can buy meals at the camp, it is certainly not cheap, nor is the booze. There is a self catering kitchen hut for our use with a fridge, deepfreeze, gas stove and kettle, plus pots and pans. There is also a braai for that special wors and steaks.
The costs of boat launching is for Clube Naval, but Prego used Escola Nautica at just about half the price.
I'll try and break it down as much as possible.
Accommodation is R250 pppn x 5 nights = R1250 pp = R5000 for 4 people
Sea worthy & skippers (thanks to Pedro) = R1000
Fishing Licences = R150 pp = R600 for 4
Clube Naval Boat & Skipper Launch Fees = R300
Passenger launch Fees = R33 pp = R133 for 4 people
Trailer parking fees = R166 per day x 5 = R834
Boat Gilly on Inhaca = R100 per day = R500 for 5 days
You need to take everything across on your boat and take as much fuel as possible. You can get fuel on the island, but it is of dubious quality, although we did not have a problem in March, Richard (Kona) had a hiccup with plugged jets on one motor.
OK, so without your food, booze and fuel it comes to R8,364 per boat or R2,091 per person for a crew of 4. Not bad for 5 days fishing in paradise.
As said above the items in green can almost be halved if we launch at Escola Nautica and your vehicle is also parked inside the grounds whereas it has to be parked outside the club at Clube Naval although it is very safe there, just ask Prego :crzy
You will need a bit of spending money for an outing to the restaurant on Inhaca and then there is also bait to be purchased.
As far as fuel is concerned, I used just short of 25 litres per side to get across to the island and then about 40 litres per side per day in hauling out to the grounds, trolling quite a bit and back to camp. That on 60 hp 2 strokes.
I hope this helps. If I've forgotten anything just shout
-
Thank you for the detailed break down Tony  :udman:
I am definitely in for this one. :fshn: :fshn: :fshn: :fshn: :fshn: :fshn: :fshn:
-
Good man Mike. (clap)
I forgot one small cost and that is island tax, but I can't remember how much it was. I know it was quite small, maybe one of the other guys will remember.
-

I would also worry about the Ford doing that distance :crzy :hehe:
But seriously, Prego did it in march when he picked Ocean Hunter up in Balito and went back via Balito.
To quote Nike, "Just Do It"

Please will someone remind me to contact the Tipo Tinto distillers and tell them to stock up to cater for the dreaded Hammer.

WE'RE IN
Can we possibly pay the money into one account and one person handle the finances?
Pete, we can work out the fixed costs e.g. Accommodation, Moz paperwork, launching fees etc and pay that into an account. Then each crew is on their own for fuel, drinks and food.
Accommodation is R250 per person per night
Moz paper work is about R1000 for a crew of 4 including fishing licences
Launch fees per boat for a crew of 4 is about R1200
I'll do some phoning tomorrow and confirm the above. Can I assume that we are talking about 4 people per boat?
-
I have just checked that everything is still the way it is. All good, here is the breakdown.
Accommodation is R250 pppn = R5000 for crew of 4
Seaworthy and moz skippers = R1000 for crew of 4
Launch fees for skipper & boat = R300
Passenger fee R33 pp. = R133 for a crew of 4
Parking for 5 days. = R830 for crew of 4
Island Gillie. = R500 for crew of 4
Fishing licenses R150 pp. = R600 for crew of 4
TOTAL PER BOAT. = R 8364 for crew of 4
Which works out to only R2091 per person, not bad for 5 nights on a beautiful tropical island.
On top of that you will need loot for drinks, food and fuel.
On one of the nights I would suggest going out to Lucas' restaurant for a good seafood dinner.
Buying 2M beer at the lodge is normal price, but anything else is expensive so bring your own hard stuff. Food at the camp is also expensive so plan on self catering (bring your own food)
In order to facilitate the moz paperwork I will need you to scan and attach to an email
1. A copy of each person's passport (main page)
2. A copy of your boat's seaworthy certificate
3. A copy of your skipper's licence.
I nominate Hammer as the treasurer :crzy

After reading peterblace's & JohnF's report from last weekend, I would hope that some more guys will get the urge to hit the big blue with us in October.
Just put your names down. All the info is available on this thread.
Mike & Peter, have you guys got a copy of all your crew's passports and the other docs needed to get the paperwork done?

"An old RSA Immigration requirement was implemented at the Komatipoort border affecting Mozambican and non-SA passport holders.
With immediate effect each adult passport holder must be able to physically show R3000 in cash OR a credit card with bank statement.
The reasoning behind this is to demonstrate that visitors will have the means to sustain themselves for the 30 day visa period. Regardless if the purpose of the visit is only for one day."

Is this widespread throughout all SA borders or only at Komatipoort?

Sorry for the hijack... here's a pic of the chaos at the Ressano Garcia/Komatipoort border today...
-
:shk Because of this new issue??
-
Yeah. Long queues, swearing... people not allowed to cross the border without producing the R3000 in cash or a recent bank statement....
-
Is this rule for everybody or non South Africans and non Mozambicans?
-
the rule applies for non South African passport holders entering ZA
-
apparently all is sorted out now...just come out on the news that ZA authorities revoked that legislation
it was only in place for 2 days and caused too many troubles

Hi Tony,
Not yet, when do you need it by, it's still a long while??
-
Middle of September Pete
-
the rule applies for non South African passport holders entering ZA
makes sence
-
There's a safety aspect that is probably being overlooked.... if every person crossing the border needs to carry R3000 in cash, then a typical family of 5 should carry R15,000. Don't know how many cars cross that border per day, but let's say 1000, that's R1.5 million in cash .... pretty sure that road will see a lot of action :uzi: . Although, I suspect, this is already happening...
I for one, carry the least amount of cash when traveling to SA... just enough for the toll gates....
-
Middle of September Pete
Thanks Tony :rck"
-
Bump
Tony do you have info with regards the accommodation. I would like to book and pay for ours? looking forward to this :happ:

Hello boet, good to see you're still around :craz: . OK, I'll confirm with Manico camp for 12 people so far from Wednesday 8th October, leaving there Monday morning 13th October. So that's 5 nights. There's no way I'm traveling on the Sunday with the roads, traffic and border.
Are you guys good with those arrangements? I'll check with Hester when they want the deposits by and let you guys know.
So far it's Pete, Mike, myself plus 3 crew each for the duration, then Peterblace and John F will join us for the weekend with their 2 boats.
Pete, I'll find out from Hester and let you know
Tipo Tinto.... :frid Boetjan is going to love you.

You're a star Tony thank you :resp:  Will you PM me banking details so that I can pay our money please, I will pay in full not just the 50%

Morning Gents
Tony thank you mate, please send me your bank details. Not long to go now, time to start prepping the tackle boys. :yipee:
-
High tide for Wednesday 8th is 15:55. I would like to launch and get under way by14:30 which means we will get to Manico by 15:30. Maybe a spot of fishing in the channel on the way over would be in order, we'll have the time.
I was in Maputo last Thursday, just for the day and it took me 6 hours from Nelspruit. Rediculous, maddening, pathetic. The two stop and goes were not the issue, it is the fact that the road is single lane at all these construction points and the bloody ore or phosphate trucks from Phalaborwa travel at about 20 k/h with nowhere to overtake.
You'll be fine coming up from KZN Pete, but Tipo (not Sipho) and myself will have to be at the border by 06:00 at the latest. Of course the problem is then that we will hit the business traffic into Maputo at its worst. We will have to arrange with peterblace to meet somwhere to pick up our docs.
It would be a good idea to get hold of some sardine bait before we leave and then we can ask Pedro and JohnF where we can organize some halfbeaks and carapau.
43 days to go lads.
-
Thanks Tony, I may go and fetch Seaducer at the end of September and bring her to Boksburg and leave from here
-
Howizit Tony, thanks for the up date buddy. I got your pm and will fix it up.
Pete, if you do that I'll meet you somewhere and we can drive together mate.
Meeting at 6 am is fine with me and we can all do the slow boat to china thing to Maputo together.
I'm so keen I'll even troll a kona just before we get into Maputo :hehe:
I can't wait boys, it's getting closer :fshn: :frid :yft: :gt: :cout: :wahoo: :sailf:
-
Howzit Sipho and Pete :crzy It sounds good about you getting Seaducer up to GP and driving down with Mike. The Swazi cops and border gave Paulo a bit of a hard time earlier this year, so at least you will avoid that.
We can meet up either on the highway outside Nelspruit, or at the Wimpy in Komatipoort and convoy through from there after we fill everything up with fuel. Sometimes you get lucky at the border and the officials don't worry about the extra fuel, but I'd rather pay duty on the boat fuel than buying too much dirty fuel in Moz
-

6 Hours from Nelspruit to Maputo!!!! :shk :shk :shk
Guys I think I would go though Swazi even if leaving from Jozi at the moment.
The reason we had trouble is because the boat trailers makers plate had not been put back on after the re galvanizing and at the swazi border the issue was because ballie did not have the correct paper work for his vehichle from the bank.
So these issues would of been there at any border post.
There is min traffic through Swazi and Goba and the border is painless if all your paper work is up to date.
Just my 2cents.
-
Thanks for your 2c mate, it is definitely a route to consider. I'll have to pull out the maps and google it.
:tkx:

Just as a reminder, the Moz guys only use VHF radios and there is a VHF repeater station on Inhaca, so make sure you remember your VHF radio if you have a hand held.
-
How about some discussions on each boat's fishing plans? What are you guys up to?
Who's fishing for billies? Jigging/spinning? Gamefish?
-
Pleasure Tony  Marcos I'm still looking for 2 crew so at this stage we've not got fixed plans but I know that we will be going for Sailies and gamefish. Hopefully a bit of jigging and popping :fshn: :sreel: :happ:

As Pete says, if there is anything you guy's need from this side just let us know.
It's getting closer boys :happ:
-
Greg, you can make a plan bud.
I reckon we'll play it by ear, but will definintely go for a few Tuna and a saily wouldn't be turned down.
Any chance of organizing some halfbeaks Marcus?
-
Yeap Tony, as I said earlier I will organize it about 2 weeks before you guys arrive. Just making sure they will be fresh...
Anyway, can start taking orders now.
Please let me know how many HBs or Kg would you like.
8-10 medium HB make up a kg on average.
-
You da man Marcos, I reckon I'll need about 15 HB's and some Carapau. As soon as you get a price, I'll eft some money
-

A question about carapau. What exactly do you mean? "Our" local carapau or the Angolan carapau (aka horse mackerel)?
Forget about the EFT. We'll sort it here - cash is KING! w;k
-
I was thinking about the local stuff
-
ok... will call the supplier tomorrow
-
To all the good people out there, I have two places available on Seaducer for this trip. Please PM me if you're interested. Costs are roughly R 6 000.00 per person all in.

6 grand for 5 days on a tropical island, all in :shk that's a steal. Who's in?
-
Peter,
Put it up on the open forum on a new thread as not everyone would view this thread
-
Got news from my supplier.
Halfbeaks available at 120.00 Mets/kg (+/- R40.00 / kg).
Will order them next week, so put you orders in guys.
-
Hi Marcos, please will you order me 2 kg's of half beaks please.
Please will you also pm me your bank details so I can payyou.
Thanks Mate
-
Peter,
Put it up on the open forum on a new thread as not everyone would view this thread
Paulo I will do, I just wanted to put it out there to this thread first :rck"
-
Right,
Halfbeak order:
iNdlovu - 15 HB (+/- 1.5 Kg) = ~180.00 Mt / ~ R60.00
Hammer - 2 kg = 240.00 Mt / R80.00
Payment:
I don't have a bank account in SA. For such small amounts I think it's a waste paying through an international wire transfer. The bank commissions will double the amount transfered! You can either pay me in MZM or ZAR, but cash only!
-
Cash only ? Come on bud, I was going to get Pete to give you a cuddle instead :hyst: :hyst: :rotfl :hehe: :hehe

Eish... this is going to be one wild trip

Got back from Kosi yesterday afternoon, what a blast.........I am flying up to Joburg and have meetings in Pretoria tomorrow. I will drive through to joburg late tomorrow afternoon, so you guys name the venue and the time.
-
Cool stuff Tony.

-
Mike I can't make it in the evening as I have prior arrangements but I've asked Darren if he is available and am awaiting an answer. I could do an afternoon session but not evening. Where I'm going has buggerall to do with you :crzy :hehe: :hehe: :hehe: :rotfl :rotfl :rotfl :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: Where and at what time are you guys meeting?

Bump on the halfbeak order:
iNdlovu - 15 HB (+/- 1.5 Kg) = ~180.00 Mt / ~ R60.00
Hammer - 2 kg = 240.00 Mt / R80.00
-
Good to see you guys last night, but ouch....it's going to be a long day :cnfzd
-
That is my pleasure Marcos, no probs Boet :rck"
-
Gosh it was good last night buddy :frid :craz:, do you remember what we spoke about :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:.
-
Where am I......
-
(clap) :rotfl :rotfl :hyst: :hyst:
Who the heck knows Greg, but I know where you're going :happ: :happ:
Hey Mike, I seem to remember a lot of talk on food, nailing Greg down and then it all becomes a blur. At least I made it back to Nelspruit this morning and sitting here trying to build some energy with a cold one. That darned Air Link pilot wasn't very gentle on the controls
-
Hey Mike, the other night you mentioned that you could maybe organize a spot for us to leave the 3 vehicles in Maputo. Can you check on this, because that will determine where we will meet Pete and launch from.
-
Packed the lures and konas and poppers and jigs. Bugger I think I need a bigger boat. :dunno:
-
Tony would it not be easier for all to leave our vehicles and trailers at Club Nuval :dunno:
-
Pete, Club Naval only let you leave your trailers there. The cars have to park out in the street which doesn't make me very happy
-
Prego launched from Escola Nautica and at Escola Nautica trailler and car park iniside...I guess he shared his thoughts about launching from there but we have to search on the April thread
-
Oh ok Boet I thought that we leave the bakkie and trailer there. Mike, Mike please come in
-
Escola Nautica is another option and cheaper than Naval, but I like launching from Naval provided we can get the cars sorted.
-
Hi Guys, I have made a call to my mate in Maputo and just waiting for him to get back to me. I'll keep you posted. I will not leave my car in the street.
-
post from Prego regarding fees at Escola Nautica

-
Thank you PB
I called Stelio from Escola Nautica and no problem to launch there.
Car + trailer = R50.00 a day
Launch fees = R200.00 per boat.
The cars are parked inside and are safe.
I think we go there boys, what do you think?
-
Sounds like a good deal. Just make sure you guys time your launch properly. Escola Nautica is a lot more problematic due to tides
-
I'm happy with Escola Nautica. We will be launching at about 14:30, the high is at 15:55, so will be just fine
-
Should fine Tony
-
Bump on the halfbeak order:
iNdlovu - 15 HB (+/- 1.5 Kg) = ~180.00 Mt / ~ R60.00
Hammer - 2 kg = 240.00 Mt / R80.00
Anything else? Will order this week
-
Looks good for me Marcos, I know Peter has a whole lot of HB's in his freezer.
Escola Nautica co-ords

-
Progress.......peterblace has all the docs and will be organising the necessary with his contact.
You must let us know how and when you need the cash or trade goods and where and when we will meet up on the 8th Pedro. Are you and Marcus coming across to the island on the Friday?
-
Hi Tony and Pete, I'm going to call Stelio tomorrow and confirm that we will launch from there and leave 3 cars and 3 trailers there until the 13th ok ? :dunno:
-
Spot on Mike.
-
my mate told me new pricing for boat papers is 3500mzn~R1310 instead of the 3000mzn~R1000..I hope you guys are OK with this new pricing from maritime authorities
-
That's fine with me Mate.
That email will be with you shortly.
-
There's not much we can do about it Pedro, so we must accept it.
-
14 days to go lads, this time in 2 weeks, we'll be in Maputo waiting for the tide.
Did you get hold of Stelio, Mike?
-
Hi Tony, yip I spoke to Stelio today and he is sorted and is expecting us on the 8th.
2 weeks :yipee: :yipee: :yipee: :yipee: yea baby!
-
Good stuff Mike. Now that Pete has Seaducer up in GP you guys can both leave together and I'll meet you in Komatipoort at 05:00 on the 8th. As long as we're ahead of the trucks it should go fairly quickly after the border, except for the rush hour traffic from Matola. We will have plenty time to do last minute things like drawing Mets from an ATM before high tide
:yipee: :fshn: :2m:
-
Thanks chaps it all sounds good. Thank you all for the organising everything.
-
I know John F has very kindly arranged some halfbeeks for us, but are you guys organising any other bait?
-
Tony, I'm taking some red bait and cracker shrimps. They are deadly for Marlin, I may even take a few earth worms for the couta.
Are you taking anything else boet ? :dunno:
-
You are so full of it Sipho. I'm taking about 5 boxes of sards and a few Bonnies and Makarel if I can get.
-
5 x 5kg boxes of sards, wow are you going to feed the fish or catch them ? :hyst: :hyst: :hyst:
-
Just a little reminder for you guys to make sure you have the following:
- Passports (the correct one Sipho)
In the car you need:
- yellow reflective safety vest (at least one)
- two red safety triangles
- yellow triangle on blue background stickers. Small one on front driver's side bumper, large one on right rear of trailer. Available at outdoor warehouse
- ZA sticker on rear of vehicle and tailboard of trailer. Available at Outdoor Warehouse
- Moz 3rd party insurance for vehicle and trailer. Available at Outdoor Warehouse (rather buy them before you leave and not at the border)
- Fire Extinguisher in vehicle
At the border you need:
- If the vehicle is under finance, a letter from the bank giving you permission to take it over the border.
- Registration document for vehicle and trailer
- Letter from your assurer stating that the vehicle is covered whilst in Moz.
I take the originals with me, but use certified copies of the docs to show to officials, including driver's licence and passport.
Rules for driving in Moz:
- No alcohol in the vehicle within reach of the driver
- All occupants must wear safety belts
- no driving in slops or barefeet
I think that's it, if I remember anything else, I'll post it here.
-
Oh yes. The driver should not wear sunglasses! New regulation!

Yebo, won't miss that trip. Just need to get my bakkie sorted then I can relax. Having clutch issues and then to the panel beater to repair hail damage, cutting it a bit close for my liking but we'll get there :cnfzd
-
Travel safe and enjoy chaps !!!

Wish I could have joined you.
-
Safe travels chaps. Here's to screaming reels, bloodied decks, new PB's and good memories...
Looking forward to the reports and :clfoto:
:tite
-
A big thanks to all of you for your good wishes.
Mike and Pete's trip starts today. They will leave the big smoke for the drive down to Komatipoort
Unfortunately my crew and I have to go into the office today, but we'll leave Nellies at 03:00 in the morning to meet the other two reprobates at 05:00 at the BP garage just before the border where we'll fill the tanks and exchange some R's for Mets to cover the cost of toll gates etc.
Then it's on to Maputo, dump the boats and probably meet peterblace and John F at Escola Nautica. Maybe a few last minute errands and when the tide allows, launch the boats and start the approx 1 hour crossing to the island.
The weather is showing moderate seas with swells averaging 1.5 meters and winds of about 15 to 20 knots for the week.....not ideal, but who said offshore fishing was a breeze. Some whitecaps should keep skippers awake.
I'll try to post some updates, but they will be from my cell, so don't expect too much.
-

yah...weather forecast not that great...Sat and Sun being the best days of the week
btw...who has VHF radios?
as a suggestion please do remember that inside the bay you can use channel 10 (Naval) and then when closer to the island and out in the blue swap to channel 22 (Naval)
otherwise you can try channel 62 (Maritimo) that covers all the area
on Maguro I have both VHF (I use Naval's channels) and 29 (please do let me know which channel you guys use)

I've only got 29 mHz
Tony,
Do you have a handheld VHF? If not, you are welcome to use my little one (3 watt). More than enough for the trip.
-
I have nothing in VHF Marcos. i bought a new one a few months ago, but the mic is faulty and am waiting for the suppliers to send me a new mic, so haven't bothered to install it yet.
-
Ok, I'll bring my little Cobra handheld to Escola Nautica. You'll need to recharge it using your cigarette socket on the boat, now and then, but it will serve you well!
-
Tony I've got VHF on Seaducer and I've got a hand held. It's fully charged so just use my one Boet :rck"

Nice (clap) good luck guys and enjoy
-
In the pumping wind yesterday, team Fishing for Reel managed to get a couta.
-
Wind got really nasty today so the boys spent the day meditating and contemplating...
Tomorrow morning myself and peterblace will meet them at sea aboard maguro...
Weatherman is promising a better day...
-
Any updates?? :dunno:
-
Saturday we left Maputo at 06:00 straight to Baixo Danae. Windy, swells and rain all day. We manged 2 kawakawa and lost a brute that the guys reckon was a GT. Destroyed the rappie!!!
Lots of whales, everywhere!!! Went back to Manico camp at about 2 pm. The guys tried to brave the sea by the swells were huge! nevertheless seaducer got 3 couta (11 kg,5 kg, 3 kg), of which the smaller was released.
We socialized up to 1 am. What a great bunch! Despite the weather, the boys were having a good time! Plenty of excellent food including a new "old Portuguese" recipe for bonnies and kawa's,didn't copme out so bad!!!! Really good actually!!!
We returned sunday as the tides and weather would make it tough to do so in the afternoon.
-
Wishing the guys a safe trip home, looking forward to some reports and photos!
-
Report just got in. The boys got some nice fish yesterday (YFT, couta, kawakawa)....
Let's wait for the report!
-
Whew, what a marathon. Everyone's home safe and sound, except Pete and Darren who are sitting in St Lucia. They had to drop Seaducker (yes, she has a new name given by the lads) off there and will be returning to GP today.
It was an awesome 5 days spent with some great mates and we owe so much to peterblace and John F for assisting with so many things.
The weather did not play the game, but we still had some reasonable fishing and a few catches. Naturally there were reports of some big goggas dropped by all 3 boats.
True to form, I did not take a single pic, but many were taken by the other guys and I will post a full report as soon as they send some pics to me.
A big thanks to all participants for making it another epic UA trip. :frid Until the next one in March.
-
Good to know you home safe Tony!

Here's the start to our report, more to follow as the pics come in.
Wednesday 8th Oct
Wednesday started off early for the team of Fishin’ for Reel (FFR), leaving Nelspruit at 03:00 in order to meet the guys from Hammered and Seaducer in Komatipoort who had driven down from Gauteng on Tuesday afternoon and were ensconced at one of lodges. By all reports we would have to deal with a few sore heads as a result of their festivities on Tuesday night.
The drive went a lot quicker than expected and we arrived early so proceeded to fill up the boat tanks before meeting them at their lodge; once all were ready we headed for the border post at 05:30 to find a fairly long two lane line up waiting for the place to open at 06:00. Things went smoothly and by 07:20 we were finished with all formalities. FFN left first to drive slowly whilst the other two boats caught up.
Once Seaducer caught up with, us we got the news that Hammered had blown a trailer wheel baring but that all was under control and they were in the process of fitting a new one so that we should continue to Escola Nautica where they would meet up with us. We pulled into Maputo at about 10:30 after an uneventful drive, although very slow what with much road works going on.
We proceeded to unhook the boats on the slip and packed all the kit onto the boats in preparation for the crossing. Part way through this exercise, John F arrived with all our documentation and half beaks and peterblace arrived at 12:15 to join us for lunch and a few refreshments at Escola Nautica’s pub where we waited for the incoming tide. The Hammered crew arrived very soon after, having made a lot better time than we did. Eventually there was sufficient water in the bay for us to launch and so we headed for the boats. The launch was simple with the aid of the facilities tractor and we gathered in the bay until all were ready for the crossing.
A fresh south easterly breeze had picked up and the bay was a bit of a mess, making the crossing a bit uncomfortable with many big thumps through the big holes and chop. However the crossing took an hour which wasn’t too bad under the circumstances.

Pic 2: Hammered in full cry from the deck of Seaducer

On arriving in the sheltered Inhaca Bay the water was smooth, a big contrast and we pulled into the Manico Camp anchorage through the gap in the mangroves at about 16:00 to be met by the friendly staff and eager gillies who offloaded the boats and allowed us to crack a case of Tipo Tinto that peterblace had kindly arranged for us to relax and shoot the breeze in the camp pub.
We had arrived safely and were excited for 4 days of good fishing.

Here's my start to a kind of a report thingy.
Well it all started on Wednesday when we drove to Komatipoort to meet Pete, Darren and SEADUCKER. We stayed the night at a small Inn a km from the boarder, we had prego rolls and a few juices. BECAREFUL they put something in their rolls which gives you a hangover.......
the next morning we met up with Tony and his crew and headed off to the boarder and thankful it went quit quickly. Just after we got through one of my wheel bearings went and luckily we found a guy who got us new ones. We put them in and carried on to Maputo to meet the boys at Escola Nautica. We all had lunch and a few juices and got together with Marcos and Pedro, a BIG thanks :+ cred: to them for all they did for us.
We launched around 2.30, there was a horrible chop on the water that made the trip a bit bumpy, but hey we where all bullet proof cause we were going fishing :fshn:.
When we got to the island the gillies were waiting for us and off loaded our boats and we were shown to our little huts. A fire was made and the RED juice flowed late into the night.

Part 2
The next morning the boys got up early some where a bit sore but we made it onto the boats and out we went. Out deep the wind was already blowing and the sea was still lumpy. All the boats were scouting the sea for fish, Fishing For Reel got a nice keeper couta and Hammered got a 7kg little eastern tuna and a 9kg yellow fin tuna. Seaducker decided to keep scouting............
Deep sea fisherman don't blank, they just keep scouting.
Any way the next day Seaducker got 3 couta and a good one of 11kg's, Fishing For Reel and Hammered ended up scouting for the day.
1 Fishing For Reel
2 Hammered
3 Hammered

Part3
The third day was a blow out so the group did what they do second best - We spent the day drinking and telling war stories :hyst:
The 4th was just fishable so we all launched and went south, Fishing For Reel was first on the board with a yellow fin and then a while later with another one. Hammered was next with a 9kg couta and the Seaducker had a double up and landed 2 yellow fin tuna's. The sea was still on it's head with the wind and white horses every where.

2 Fish
3 The lucky ones

Pete very kindly did a quick tut on how the pose with your fish for the camera. He sportingly used his huge pick handle barracuda he caught amongst a school of bait fish :hyst:
1 How most anglers hold their fish to make them bigger
2 How you should hold it for the camera
3 If you can, try and show the length of the fish by holding it by the tail. As you can see it is just a few inches shorter than Pete.

Yup, a superb few days with good mates, thanks to you all for making it a memorable one and to Pedro and Marcos for their help.
By the way, those two bleeding blisters on my bum were caused by the rough seas throwing me around against the bum bar on Fishin' for Reel. No one can say we didn't put our bodies on the line.
1: Darren's Sunday YFT
2: Hammer's Sunday Couta

Again, thanks to all for a great time!
