Mrs. Simpson and I caught these Gobies last year while doing a bit of micro fishing, and guess what? I have just been talking to a specialist at the SAIAB and he reckons its a new species! Hes never seen anything like that before, so now I just need to bring them 2 fish, luckily I know a spot where there are quite a few of them. Just thought I would share :-)
Micro fishing is awesome!

It would be great if they turned out to be a new species! Fingers crossed!

The guy said its a very strange colour and the tail is the main thing that seperates it from any current species, because it has a slight point to it and is not fully rounded. Yeah fingers crossed the guy wants me to collect 4 of them to see if its def a new species!

Good luck Gareth!

Like!
Apparently they are discovering hundreds of new fish species yearly as the exploration methods (and micro-fishing methods in this case) improves. Now imagine how many species go extinct each year that we didn't even know ever existed ...
Cheers

Howsit WK,
do you remember the name of the guy you chatted to at SAIAB? I'd be interested to know who (I'm in an office 10 meters from SAIAB). Good to see you microfishing - I have always enjoyed it (be it by choice or just because I only catch microfish).
Cheers

Walkerpedia! Well done Gareth!

:hehe: thanks guys, Matt I first spoke to Elaine, and then Wouter (Whos the klipfish and blenny specialist there).
-
very cool man (clap) !
I think everyone would be amazed at how many undescribed species they have come across in their lives, especially insects! The taxonomists in SAIAB are excellent. If its a new species they would know...
-
Very true Matt, well Wouter has found 3 new species of klipfish in the last 3 years and 2 further species that need to be caught and disected, its amazing actually!

So your taking them 2 fish 2 get sliced and diced? So its ok to kill for research but not to chow..... :pot: :pot:
-
Maybe it is the only two alive and then the whole species would be wiped out :hyst:
-
:rotfl new extinct species discovered :crzy
-
:lolo: I am taking them alive, will leave the rest up to them w;k

Now imagine if some dude invaded your home, put you in a box and then delivered you alive to some crazy scientist who may or may not slice you into little peices :creep:
