Title: John F's DIY: Tow rope
Post by: John F on August 28, 2013, 05:34:41 AM
In Maputo bay, we cover a lot of miles to get to the fishing grounds. We dont have a coast guard, NSRI or anything similar so one must be prepared as much as possible for any emergency situation.

Here's my DIY tow rope. Hope I never get a chance to use it but one can  never be too prepared.

After a recent incident involving a boat from Clube Naval, I decided I'd get/make myself one, just to make sure if rescue arrives (or if I need to rescue someone), I'd be properly set for the task.

I did a bit of research on the net... the design I came up with is shown in the diagram below (obviously not to scale).

I'll be using a 20 mm nylon rope and galvanized thimbles and shackles. There will be two floaters in the the main rope.

Please see a pic of the work in progress.

I'd appreciate any ideas to improve it. I'm still in the designing/manufacturing phase so there's time for some modifications.
