Title: Langebaan Outlook-End of August
Post by: Daisy on August 25, 2010, 07:41:19 AM
It`s Wednesday and the weather is giving us a break with Spring almost here. It`s full moon and one can expect a super low tide on Saturday around 11h00.Normally full moon brings big fish, but also just a few fish...just last week at Kabeljouklip at Spreeuwalle,Kwando tells me that a Kob was caught that could not fit into a big net...and around the Island some fairly big Stumps are showing.I guess one can now start fishing from the Paaltjies and those areas, but Spreeuwalle and Paradise beach are still the best options from the shore at this stage.Down on the Line not much is happening,,just the sandbanks have moved completely to what we are used to and it seems we have to look for new holes now this season.
This weekend should see nice days, sunny and maybe some high level clouds towards Sunday. The wind will hardly be a breeze, still cold in the mornings and water temperature around 14 deg.The water has a nice color. Those who want to give the Baan a try,can do it,but do not expect fireworks, however one should get fish like Stumps, lots of pajama sharks and maybe a Kob...also Kolstert at Spreeuwalle/Paradise beach. The preferred bait will be prawn and for Kob,pilchard.Chokka seems to be not preferred at the moment.
Langebaan tip of the week....Stumps feed on sight, not smell. That`s why they prefer clear water and slightly cold. You therefor have to take extreme care when putting on bait.Use prawn and ensure that the prawn is kept alive. So if the hook is penetrated from the tail,it will die.If the hook is penetrated from where the tails starts,it will live a little longer ,but will also die. With a bit of practice, the prawn can be put on the hook by just using a bit of ghost cotton...but make sure the cotton cannot be seen and that the bait looks perfectly natural...no foreign material like sea weed etc...one peck from a Stump and you have to replace the prawn.Try this and you will improve your catch rate.
Well hope to see you around here at the magic Baan...go well and be blessed!!

Morning Daisy and thanks for another great report. I have only fished the lagoon off a boat. Is there any chance of posting or e-mailing a google map of where to park your vehicle to fish Spreeuwalle. I have never fished there and know it is quite a distance to walk. Travel light I suppose?

Hi loomisx5...go past Pick-n-Pay center and on your left you will see a caravan packed right next to the road, turn down that gravel road and drive right down to where it ends. Then cross the sandbank and walk towards Saldanha until you find flat rocks...cast there.Your car should be safe.

Great post as usual. Thank you for the tip about the rigging of prawns, I am sure that method will improve our strike rate no matter where we fish.  (clap) :ayb
