Title: Shimano Aerlex 4000 - Service and Maintenance
Post by: REEFMAN on June 19, 2013, 12:52:44 PM
This little reel is getting on in years... Bought in the late 90's, it has served me well. It's the 4000 version of the Shimano Aerlex, which they have long since stopped making. Sporting a whole 2 ball bearings, it was good stuff at the time...  :hehe:
Having opened it up again, I'm amazed at how few things have changed!

I think this must have been one of the last reels to be made by Shimano where they have a gear causing the Slider to move. I stand corrected, but most Shimano's now have a proper Wormgear. Pinion gear design hasn't changed much in 15 years, nor has the handle hinge... interesting stuff.
The Anti-reverse bearing is exactly the same in most models... years later!
Also, the Anti-reverse Pawl and spring.... exactly the same.

What's amazing is how smooth the retrieve still is on this reel...!

Anyhow, for what it's worth, here is a little Service Tutorial for the Shimano Aerlex 4000:

:shk   :shk  another one , you still in the dental practice or is it Reefmans Reel Refurbs ... :hyst:   :hyst: ... (clap)  great stuff interesting to see that the older reels had fewer working , moving parts but still stood the the test of time and in great condition as well . :-)
