Been invited to a meeting about the revision of the 1999 regulation on sport and recreational fishing. Let's see what's new...

Money Marcos, the root of all evil.
If its better regulation for the sake of conservation we will all be happy, but please place recreational in perspective against unregulated subsistence fishing and the shark fin rape happening in Mozambique.

Keep us posted please Marcos.

Ministry of Fisheries is leading the process... They are still in the first stage of collecting input from stakeholders, although they have some funny proposals...
I spoke for about 45 min and told them a few things that have been bugging me... will also gather info from the guys at the club and put together a proper package in written format for them.
If anyone has ideas or comments or any other input please email me and I'll make sure to include them in our document for the them. We're supposed to submit it by Nov, 15th.

Had a meeting at the Fisheries Administration Commission as a special guest this morning (this is a technical consultive group withi the Ministry of Fisheries that advises the Minister). Had to dress up a bit :hehe:
Happy to see that most of my suggestions have been incorporate into the new Sport and Recreational Fishing regulation which is still in draft format and will be discussed next month in a series of national workshops... one of which is the weekly license (instead of the quarterly), size limits, protected species, etc.
Also, participated in the discussion of the draft Mozambique Linefish Management Plan. Some good, pro-active ideas there. Hopefully these will go forward and ultimately will be implemented and enforced.
