What species have you caught
« on: August 19, 2014, 08:47:09 am »
I thought I would put this thread in the micro forum simply because chasing species usually ends up in micro fishing and the guys who chase species numbers are usually the micro fishermen anyway. So just post your species list. Any kind of fishing counts. I will start

Freshwater:
Largemouth Bass
Smallmouth Bass
Bluegill
Cape Kurper
Rainbow trout
Brown trout
Carp
Barble
Koi (don't ask :))
Clanwilliam redfin
Fiery redfin
Breede river redfin
Unidentified redfin from the outeniqua mountains
Vleikurper
Bluekurper
Israeli Tilapia
Sawfin
Clanwilliam Yellowfish
Smallmouth yellowfish
Tench

Then only in Poland and czech republic:
Chub
Perch
Bleak
Grayling
European minnow (Phoxinus phoxinus)

Almost entirely fly. If you can fly fish then fly will always be the easiest way to catch tiny fish. I usually use a 3wt. I have a 7'9" 3wt and a 10'0" 3wt. They are a bit heavy for a lot of micro fishing but at the moment I don't have the money for a 000 which I badly want.

There are a few fish which strangely are absent from my list: Galjoen, geelbeck from saltwater

and from freshwater:
Largemouth yellowfish
Orange river mudfish
Natal scaly
Smallscale yellowfish
largescale yellowfish
redbreast tilapia.

I have fished two fly fishing nationals in Mpumalanga and two in KZN but thats only trout and other than that I haven't fly fished outside of the western cape. (Ok I have fished in Czech and Poland). I have never fished the vaal or Orange. Hopefully I am coming to Gauteng to fish in Late November so maybe I can add a couple of species.

This is unacceptable!!!!  <:

Reefz... put yourself in Mavalane International Airport (or what ever they call it these days; or elsewhere in Maputo), and I'll put you face-to-face with a couta (+some  :2m: )... here's a suggestion (http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php?topic=16655.0) - even if only for the weekend
