Garden route / Southern cape checklist
« on: June 13, 2018, 08:58:22 pm »
Just wondering if anyone has ever thought of making a species checklist of the fish occurring in the garden route are?
You're just jealous because the voices are only talking to me :)

Sure.
Made these lists in 2006, don't think they've changed too much...

Please note: VENUS EAR/SIFFIE has since been protected and is illegal to have in your possession!

Now is not a good time to go fishing... said nobody... EVER!!

Those are really wonderful species lists and baits - just Venus Ear bait is not permissible anymore.  And such a pity as the resource is clearly not threatened. Just the pearly poachers claiming they have Venus Ear when they have illegal and probably undersize perlemoen in possesion.  So they banned the whole lot...

I notice that Table Bay Harbour was a great place to target many good fish - but I think this option is no longer.  Right?  If it's closed, has anyone had scuccess fishing just outside - say Granger Bay and the other side near Milnerton?

I've only once seen a chap fishing at Milnerton lagoon and he too was experimenting as he had not either seen or heard of catches being made.  You would think Milnerton Lagoon mouth and surrounds holds fish as the prawn beds in the lagoon are attractive.  And Granger Bay - the waters just outside the Oceana Powerboat Club .  Anybody try Rock n Surf from here?
