Just returned from Hole in the Wall. I took down 5 x 1 piece old surf rods. 3 of them were 14 foot (2 x purglass and 1 x other) and 2 x 10 foot Purglass spinning rods that I had accumulated over time with the express purpose of giving them away. 1st one was to a guy whose rod had recently broken and was thus unable to fish as he no longer had a rod. the other 2 x big ones I gave to the 2 gillies we regularly use and the 2 smaller ones we will give away when I go down in 2 weeks time. The guy (he was 45 plus) whose rod had broken had tears in his eyes when I gave him the rod. There is no shop down there to buy reasonable rods and reels, and even if there was, there was, the guys are often fishing to put food on the table for their families, as the jobs down there are few and far between. So the reason for this post is to ask if you have older 1 piece rods (that are inconvenient for us traveling fishermen to cart up and down to the coast), and are willing to donate them to a good cause, I will happily take them down when we go again next month and make sure they find a home where they are appreciated. I am based in Randburg, but am happy to collect in the JHB area.Old reels would also be welcome, both multipliers and coffee grinders. Should be in working order.
