Vaal Dam Level 2018
« on: January 11, 2017, 08:24:53 pm »
Great news  :happ: :happ: , the Vaal dam has risen from 44% last Wednesday to 54% yesterday , the level has risen !.5 m . On Tuesday the inflow was over 500 cumecs and Wed still well over 250 .Current release to the barrage is > 15 cumecs and recent evaporation has been low . The dam is now at the same level as this time last year, with the prediction of better rains than last year .  :toppie:

Hopefully we have good rains for the rest of the summer months. Last year was a very tough year for our farmers

Vaal update 16/1 ,  the dam level is now 59.1 % . with an inflow of over 700 cumecs, this is capable of increasing the level by 2% almost overnight .   (clap) :toppie:

Thanks for the updates Colin. Keep 'em coming. Encouraging that the drought might be broken... what about Freestate? Dam levels were still quite bad a few weeks ago?

Now is not a good time to go fishing... said nobody... EVER!!

Grootdraai dam is currently at 100% and the gates are open ... This should feed nicely into the Vaal Dam.

In the eastern free state we had good rain falls over the last couple of weeks. Most of the private dams are full. Some of the bigger dams stil need some water. Al though is was a dry season in the beginning it turned out real nice. Farmer had good crops and mielies and beans look very promising. Still thing goverment should have used the dry season to clean out the dams.

Vaal dam update @ 18th Jan, 62%  (clap) . Inflow is still good but the hot weather and wind is slowing down the level rising :-( . But the dam is still 10% higher than the peak level in 2016.  :toppie:

Vaal Dam update 25/1 . the dam rose 1% late last week but has remained at 63% this whole week . But to put things in perspective , this time last year the dam went from 52 t0 51 % , we went up from 62 to 63% in '17. At the current steady inflow of +- 60 cumecs the inflow roughly equals the evaporation and outflow to the Barrage .  :toppie:

This past week the dam rose to 64% and has held this level , inflow has fluctuated between 60 lately down to 50 cumecs, today was only 40cumecs :-( . Hot weather and winds will have the level dropping. :toppie:

This will be the last update for 3 weeks as I will be at Henties  :frid :fshn: :gljn: :trout: :yipee: . . Unfortunately the gang is much reduced to 6 putting pressure on our split fuel and accommodation costs , but family and fees must come first .  :toppie:

Was at the dam this weekend, looking very good. There is so much floating grass and weed in the water its scary. Needless to say I blanked.

Good luck Colin!

Did a check on Vaal Dam levels today . The dam held at 64% from my last update on the 3rd Feb . Inflow averaging 60/70 cubic meters per second, but on monday / tues it rose slightly. Then the rivers delivered 2330 cumecs :happ:  with much more on the way .No evaporation plus 110 mm direct rain in  2 days , TODAY   72% FULL . And much more in the rivers, the dam has nearly 50% more water than 2016 on 22 feb .  :yipee: . This old Fart predicts 80% by next week .  :toppie:
