Struisbaai R&S fishing trip, any tips?
« on: July 22, 2025, 05:09:43 PM »
I haven't been to Struisbaai in ages and was wondering if any of the locals on the forum would mind giving me a few pointers. I have seen some posts on Struisbaai spots, etc., but they're relatively old, and I wanted to know if anything has changed.

I know it's not the best time of the year, but I'm looking forward nonetheless. I only hear good things about fishing in Struisbaai.

Any pointers on spots, tackle, bait, and potential eddies would be great.

Happy fishing, en stywe lyne!  :fshn:

Hey there!
Struisbaai is a beautiful spot and you should have a great time! While I'm not a local there, I'd love to help if I can. The harbor area is usually productive, and the beach stretches can hold some good fish depending on conditions. Gully mouths and rocky outcrops are always worth targeting.
For tackle, a medium to heavy surf rod should cover most situations. Bait-wise, fresh sardines, chokka, and red-eye usually work well in that area, but it's always smart to check what's available locally when you get there.
Hopefully, some Struisbaai locals will chime in with current info on what's biting and any changes to access or hot spots. Things can definitely shift over time, so their recent experience will be invaluable.
Enjoy your trip and tight lines! 🎣 Coastal water activities and gear tips.
