Thanks Werries a great post! I think I am now equipped with  the knowledge on how to catch 'em but please do share your knowledge on how to  look for them. How would one know where to find them?      :cnfzd

thanks werries great trace :tkx:

i use a very similar trace but use a bright orange cork instead of foam, and use a running ball sinker, find it works really well to. only just started fishing with foam so really keen to try this trace out!!!!

charles i find that when fishing for shad of the rocks they often really close to the rocks and find they like to feed in white water or just on the edge of the white water. they also often dart in and out of gullies and putting your bate at the entrance to the gully often works reall well to. i have had shad chase and get hooked up on a spoon in  foamy that was comming uo the rock, just shows that they not affraid to hunt in shallow water....
hope this helped

:tkx:  Dicko, this really helps! As I said before I am new to this awesome sport and any bit of information is immensely appreciated. (I do recall as a child a friend of mine told me that he used to drive with his dad along the beach (in the ‘70s) and spotted the fish in the waves upon which they caught them with spoons. Must say I have been scrutinizing the waves but only saw dolphins and once a shark.) I will follow your advice!

you must ask someone else about catching them off the beach because i dont often fish off the beach, have caught shad from the beach but thats because i saw other guys catching  :hehe:  thats the best way to catch them as they often hunt in shoals so if you see a whole lot of guys catching it is probably a good idea to fish somewhere near them, also if there are a lot of guys fishing in one area then the smell of all the bait in the water will draw a shoal of shad in and then they will stay there as there is always bait in the water keeping them there. and they feed the best in the early morning just before and after the sun comes up and will then slowly go off the bite.

Thank you for the great tip, i will try this trace, as it looks easy and much neater to work with. Also saves time. Thanks once again.
