New casting/multiplier rod help
« on: April 29, 2024, 11:38:47 AM »
I am looking for recommendations, what would you recommend as an all round casting/multiplier rod, it will be matched with a torium 30hg.

It will be used for sliding and casting heavy baits mostly for edibles but should be able to handle whatever may arrive.

Also looking for braid backing advise for the Tor30hg and what topshot.

Thanks in advance

looking for a 14FT 3piece casting as my current rod does not fit while traveling

Currently seeing

ASSASSIN B/M ZERO 14 HVY CAST 7-9oz saw a post with someone having broken relatively new ones
Loomis & Franklin Shockwave HMG - any info would be appreciated

are there any other recommendations ? Penn Options

from what I have read I should look at 40 to 50lb braid - 600m and then the topshot, just looking for recommendations on the different lines

Penn Legion is an option, or you can have a look at the

I would look at the Beachmaster Zero in 14.6 med/heavy 5-7 oz cast weight or Beachmaster zero 14.0 med/cast 5-7oz as an all round edible / small in- eds rod . The 14.6 has the option of being used with a grinder as well . The Torium 30 might be limiting if you pick up a large in-ed wrt braid capacity as backing and mono topshot .

Lets stir this conversation up a bit.
Why do you not convert to a grinder set-up?

Yes sliding with a grinder and braid isnt the best of ideas, but surely you can cast a livey deep enough with a grinder/braid set-up?

I see you are from Meyerton, and assume you do not get to the coast alot.
So why do you want to frustrate yourself with a multiplier?

Because in order to slide you probably still need a rod that can cast a 7-8oz weight.
So if you decide to fish bait only for edibles, you sit with a heavy set-up.

Personally I just think a 6oz rod and 10k grinder is more versatile

I agree , especially if night fishing a grinder setup is the way to go , unless you have a well educated thumb or your multiplier has been static magged, getting massive overwinds in the dark is not fun and with grinders and a bionic finger and practice you'll get some good distances in if not more than a multiplier + fishing with braid increases sensitivity to whats happening out there with your bait .

I just enjoy the feel of the multiplier and have learnt allot from the patience required when it doesn't go right, have been fishing them for quite a few years now and the last time I tried the grinder with the bionic finger I was more frustrated as I kept losing terminal tackle on the cast, I have a basic grinder setup for 4 to 6 ounce. I have a purglass 400/3 and was looking for something more compact to fit inside the vehicle, I finally settled on a Blue Marlin G3 420 in 6 to 8 ounce, it was affordable and will see how it goes, hopefully I meet the sardines on the beach in 2 weeks.
