i notice most people (Right handed) crank with their right hand using a multiplier but crank with their left hand using a fixed spool , why is this ?  Surely in both cases the stronger right arm should be pulling the rod up and then crank with left hand on down stroke. Am talking about surf casting mainly

Most of our anglers here in South Africa use the right hand to reel in
This is for the multiplier and spinning reels.
If you choose to be left handed and want to use your left hand then you can just swop the handle to the left hand side on most of our spinning reels
Multipliers stay the same you can not swop the handle.

I cast right handed and have always used a left handed spinning reel. It saves having to change hands after each cast. It will take you 5 minutes of winding with your left hand while watching TV and you will never regret it. Most right handed people have a stronger right arm which is great when you are fighting a fish, in fact all my fly reels are also left hand winds for the same reason, my right arm is stronger when fighting a fish off the reel. That is my 5 cents worth on the subject
