STOPPING BIG SHARKS
« on: May 25, 2022, 10:01:05 AM »
Hi Guys

I am going to Durbs for the sardine run this year, going to try to target Sharks. The thought crossed my mind, what if I hook into a monster that heads for the deep and I am running out of line. How do you turn the fish?

What if you cannot turn it, how does one pull the hooks? Or do you just straight stick it and wait to until it cuts you off.

I am a novice, so would like to hear from the more experienced guys here.

Thanks

Sting Ray

To be very blunt, if you a novice you shouldn't be targeting big sharks.

This is how you kill animals!

My suggestion, target smaller species, get used to how much pressure to apply, how to turn  fish etc. Once you comfortable with these techniques then I would suggest. Maybe use the next year to perfect this and hit next years sard run with confidence.

...to add to this, take a spoon and spin around the sards or a straight nylon trace with a single sard. That way you targeting edibles o 1kg-20kgs, that will give you great experience. If you keen, go throw some sard baits at night where they were netted, you will pick up smaller non eds like diamonds etc which again will be great practice
