I just arrived back home from a wonderful weekend at Ballots Bay. I invited my parents to join us and we arrived at the house round about 5pm on Friday afternoon. We quickly unpacked and then went down to the beach to scout out the sea conditions.
We went back to the beach on Saturday morning and I got a Black tail of 35cm on my first cast! It was my Dad's turn next with a Galjoen of 38cm. I went on next with my very first Banded Galjoen. I landed another Galjoen of 33cm and My Dad got one of 35cm. All fish were released as the Galjoen season closed on Friday. All the above fish were caught on red bait and in about 25 minutes but after that the wind picked and the fish went off the bite. We wanted to go for another session on Saturday afternoon but the wind was pumping and we decided to call it a day. My parents went home later and we had a quiet afternoon.
Later my Dad phoned and told me he accidentally took the red bait with him to Still Bay!!
This morning I went for a cast but only managed a smallish Black tail on my son's little rod. The SE wind of the previous day cooled the water down substantially and that was it, nothing else.
Although we did not get any big fish we still had a lot of fun and it was great to be able to spend some quality time with my family.
I am already planning my next trip.....!
